Will run for US presidency in 2024, says Trump

KABUL (Pajhwok): Ex-US president Donald Trump has announced his plans to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

On Tuesday night, Trump said: “In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.”

CNN quoted Trump as making the announcement to a crowd gathered at Mar-a-Lago, his waterfront estate in Florida.

Trump insisted the Republicans could not afford to nominate a politician or conventional candidate if it really desired to regain the White House control.

Following last week’s midterms, Trump was assailed for supporting candidates who were defeated by Democrats.

Before his announcement, the US Federal Election Commission confirmed had Trump become the first candidate for 2024 to submit his bid for US presidency.
