Prayer leader gunned down at home in Kunduz city

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead a prayer leader in this capital city of northern Kunduz province, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Jumadin Khaksar told Pajhwok Afghan News that the imam identified as Qari Saeed Abdul Hadi son of Abdul Baqi was killed at his home at around 3am in the seventh security district of Kunduz City.

He said one person had been arrested in connection with the incident.

SayedMasoudHashemi, a Kunduz resident, published a picture of Qari Abdul Hadi on his Facebook page and wrote: “Qari Sahib Abdul Hadi, my uncle’s son, may your soul rest in peace and may Allah grant you a chosen place in the Jannah”.

A number of people on social media said Abdul Hadi was the imam of the national army in the previous government.

However, police spokesperson Khaksar said Abdul Hadi was not the imam of the national army in the past.
