ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A disabled man who lost his both limbs in the past conflict is disappointed now and said it won’t serve his interest if the entire world becomes his own.

This is Hammad from Kunar’s Manogi district who served in the past Afghan National Army and lost his both legs in a bomb blast in Kunduz province five years ago.

Hammad said people who suffered from the conflict could better feel the pain.

He said then I was young and my spirit was high. My commander encouraged me and sent me to the line of fire but after he was injured nobody inquired after him.

Recalling the bitter incident, he said conflict generated grief and his current condition was the best reflection.

“My commander pushed me on my shoulder and said you are the best, go ahead. And there due to a bomb blast my two legs were lost and till this day I never saw the commander and nobody came to my help.”

“I seek my wife help when I need to stand up and change my place, I am really grateful to her,” he said.

“I am 28-year-old, when I was good everybody was good with me but after disability even my close relatives forget me because they feared I may ask them for money,” he added.

Hammad said: “Although my two legs are not mine but still I don’t like to beg and consider death better than bagging others.”

The former military personnel said he was more in pain when see his parents, adding that their economic condition were worst him.

“You know that children are very dear to their parents, my parents always feel grief for me, their economic condition is not the way that they should help me. I wish I was not disabled and could help them,” he said.

Hammad added the Martyred and Disabled Department give him salary in the past as well as now.

“Now I get 5,000 afs from the government and it became 60,000 annually,” he said.

He asked the acting government to address the problems of past conflict victims and provide them support.

Kunar Information and Cultural Affairs Director Mawlavi Najibullah Hanif said government planned to provide support to all the victims of past conflict and assist them.

“Past conflict lift our countrymen and women in miseries, may Allah bring peace and stability in our country and prolong this peace and stability. Government strived to provide support to all victims of the past conflict, including disabled,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that past conflict claimed the lives of thousands of countrymen and women and inflicted heavy financial losses. Scores of people also disabled as result of the past conflicted nationwide.
