KABUL (Pajhwok): Former president Hamid Karzai has met some Afghan political figures and officials of the previous government in London.
A BBC report said Karzai recently arrived in London and met with a number of Afghan politicians and former government officials.
Former ambassador of Afghanistan in London, Tayyib Jawad, told the BBC that Karzai’s five-day visit to London had been ‘useful.’
During his visit, Karzai also met and talked with British King Charles III.
Jawad said the focus of Karzai’s meetings was to ‘prepare the ground for intra-Afghan negotiations between the Taliban and their opposition groups.’ Karzai left London last night.
Hamid Karzai’s office has said nothing about his visit and meetings with politicians in London.
Former national security advisor of the former president, Zalmai Rasoul, can be seen in a picture with Karzai circulating in social media.
Karzai has been in Kabul since the regime change in Afghanistan in August 2021. At the end of last year, he traveled abroad for the first time to the United Arab Emirates.
