KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Natural resources in Kandahar province first need to be processed in the local factories and then exported to foreign countries, an official said on Tuesday.
Syed Sarwar Amani, the Kandahar Chamber of Industry and Mines, head said that precious items found in the natural reservoirs are exported to foreign countries and then imported back to Kandahar with high price.
He said the fact that more mines had been explored in Kandahar then it should be granted to local factories for processing.
“We have different types of factories here such as the batteries making factories. Everything should be processed here and we can earn most of the profit,” he believed.
Amani said that there was need for increasing duty on marble and other items imported to the country and the government should instead support and facilitate local industry.
He said 14 mines had been opened for exploration in which work on some mine started and some are yet to be started.
He added the bidding process of all these mines had been conducting in the centre.
Individuals busy in mining said that exploration of mine resulted in job generation for the people.
“I had no job in the past, but now I work in marble mine and I am happy. If there is more exploration of mines more people will get work opportunities,” said Sanaullah one of the labours.
