Media support organisations accused of wrongdoings

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some journalists have complained that their colleagues have been faced with financial crises and the media support orgnaisation did not help them and leveled corruption accusations.

They said a new movement —- Journalists Rights Advocacy — has been formed to advocate for the rights of journalists, they addressed a press conference in Kabul on Friday.

Rohullah Yaqoubi, a member of the new movement, said from the past one year they have been advocating for the rights of journalists.

He said: “After the takeover of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) the country was faced with financial crises and this situation caused problems for journalists and hampered the freedom of express.”

Yaqoubi alleged: “Media support organisations did not served the interest of journalists and there was no drastic change in the condition of journalists, these oganisations tried to get projects by the name of journalist and caused distrust between media outlets and journalists”

In a statement they termed the recent Pakistan-Afghanistan Journalists agreement yet another efforts to misuse the rights of journalists and termed the agreement rejected and a big treason on the side of Afghan media outlets.

The new journalist advocacy movement accused the Journalists Safety Committee (JSC) and the Afghanistan Independent Journalists Forum over for denying support victims of blast in Tabyan Centre in Mazar-i-Sharif.

“We want the financial corruption cases of journalists’ advocacy groups, we want the Information and Cultural Affairs Ministry to investigate these cases and share its result with all, if corruption was proved the doors of these institutions should be closed for ever.”

Abdul Qadim Weyar, head of the JSC, said: “These people did not deserve to the responded because who created them and what is their purpose was very clear, people behind them are also known and the reason why they had been told to do so.”

In recent Afghanistan Pakistan agreement there was nothing special and there was nothing hidden the agreement was all about supporting journalists.
