MEHTARLAM, SHEBERGHAN, BMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Seven people have lost their lives after drowning in Laghman, Bamyan and Jawzjan provinces, officials on Wednesday.
Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi, director of natural disaster management in Laghman, told Pajhwok Afghan News four individuals drowned while bathing in a river in Qarghayee district on Tuesday.
He said three dead bodies had been fished out and a search was underway for the fourth.
For public awareness, he said, the municipality had installed in the area a board warning: “Swimming here is full of risk.”
The official remarked: “I don’t know why these people are still doing so (bathing 9n the river.”
In Bamyan, police spokesman Mohammad Khwani Rasa said, two brothers drowned in Band-i-Amir on Tuesday.
Qari Abdul Sattar Haleemi, Jawzjan police spokesman, told Pajhwok a boy drowned in the river and died in the Pul-i-Khorasan area of Shiberghan.
He said the 18-year-old youth, named Lama Jan, was a resident of the Dasht-i-Laili area of Qush Tepa district.
