Top Afghan, US official set to meet in Doha

KABUL (Pajhwok): A high-level IEA delegation, led by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, is in Doha to hold talks with US officials today (Sunday).

The Afghan team is due to hold discussions with the US delegates on lifting of sanctions, unfreezing of Afghan assets and violations of the country’s airspace.

On the other hand, the American officials will underline the need for security, combating drugs and protecting women’s rights in Afghanistan.

US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West and Envoy for Human Rights and Women Affairs Rina Amiri are part of the American delegation.

Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman for the foreign ministry, says banking sanctions, removal of caretaker government officials from the black list and violations of the country’s airspace are on the agenda.

The interim government’s team will also discuss bilateral relations with officials of the Qatari government and Qatar-based foreign representatives.
