HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Seventh grapes, figs, honey and some other agriculture products festival begins in western Herat province which will continue for three days.
Agriculture Director Mawlavi Pir Mohmmad Halimi during the inauguration ceremony said grapes yield declined by 30 percent while fig yield declined by 80 percent in the province.
He linked the decline of these yields with severe cold in winter and this year drought.
Information and Cultural Affair Director Mawlana Naeemulhaq Haqqani told stallers and their problems could not be resolved by this festival and pledged that government was taking all steps to ensure the export of agriculture products to the foreign.
Ghulam Ghos, one of the grapes farmer from the Imam Shash Noor locality, said due drought this year the grapes products were not satisfactory.
He asked the local and central governments to ensure the export of agriculture products and invest on the creation of cold stores.
It is pertinent to mention that in this festival 50 stalls had been installed who put on display agriculture and handicraft products.
