Duty cut to boost coal exports, hopes ACCI

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) hopes a recently-announced duty reduction will help boost coal exports.

Deputy head of ACCI Mohammad Younus Momand said tax cuts would lend a significant boost to coal exports to Pakistan and other countries.

Pakistan, Afghanistan’s energy-deficient neighbour, is currently heavily reliant on imports of the commodity from African countries.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoM&P) announced cutting the export duty on one tonne of coal from 45 to 30 dollars.

The duty had been slashed in compliance with a decree from the Islamic Emirate leadership, the ministry said.

MoMP spokesman Homayoun Afghan said the royalty tariff on the export of a tonne of coal had also been lowered from 2,500 afs to 2,200 afs.
