KABUL (Pajhwok): The Iranian president says experts are looking at water supply into Sistan and Baluchistan from Afghanistan.
Enjoying good relations with all its neighbors, Iran adhered to the Helmand River Water Treaty, Ebrahim Raisi told journalists in Tehran on Tuesday.
“We have dispatched experts and the Islamic Emirate has allowed the group to check whether the water is sufficient to meet the needs of Sistan and Baluchistan,” IRNA quoted him as saying.
Raisi added the experts were sent to the neighbouring country following discussions and follow-ups by Kazimi Qomi, his special representative for Afghanistan.
Tehran recently accused Kabul of restricting the flow of water into Iran, which has asked the interim Afghan government not to violate its share in Helmand water.
On the other hand, IEA spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says Iran is aware of the water situation in Afghanistan. He argues drought does not allow enough water flows into Iran.
