TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The presence of seed production factories in northern Takhar province has helped addressed the farmers’ refined seed demand and generated job opportunities for some people as well, an official said on Monday.
Agriculture Director Mawlavi Abdul Rahim Ahadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the production of refined seed by the factories in the province helped improved the wheat yield as well.
He said currently six refined seed production factories were functional in the province which produced refined seed for the farmers in Takhar as well as the neighboring provinces.
Hameedullah Faizi, head of a refined seed factory, said they currently produced 1,800 tonnes of refined seed.
He added farmers in Takhar and in the neighboring provinces were benefited from the refined seed production of his factory.
He said their production was based on modern methods, the factory provided refined seeds, urea, medicines and loan to the farmers in cooperation with the FU organization.
He added 30 people were engaged in work in this factory and they earned their livelihood from this way.
Sayed Jamal, one of the farmers said that in the past, refined seeds were not available, there was no awareness about the use of these seeds among the farmers, but now that he has been using domestic modified eggs for a few years now, his wheat yield has increased several times.
He added in the past if the yield was 10 percent now with the help of refined sees it surged to 50 percent which is a massive progress.
Jamal added in fall season, in addition to the distribution of refined seed seeds by these factories to the farmers, chemical fertilizers are also offered to them in the form of interest-free loans, which had solved the problems of farmers.
Takhar province has warm weather and it is considered one of the agricultural friendly provinces of the country.
