FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces in western Farah province have rescued a woman from confinement at the hands of her cousins for the last 10 years.

Police chief Maulvi Abdul Zahir Khadem told Pajhwok Afghan News the woman, Noor Bibi, was rescued in the Koksheb village of Farah City, the provincial capital.

He said on Sunday: “This afternoon, we received information that a woman is being kept in a room by her cousins.

“We went to the area along with other officials and found the woman, who was being kept in a dark room in horrible condition.”

Khadem added the woman was given food and drinks in the same room.

Noor Bibi had no other relatives, said the police chief, who added they had arrested her four cousins.

The woman, suffering from a mental disorder, has been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Noor Agha, a relative of Noor Bibi, claimed she had psychological problem and would go out of home. That was why they kept her in the room.

A cousin of Bibi also confirmed she had mental issues.

Two weeks ago, police personnel had rescued a woman from 25 years of illegal confinement in the capital Kabul.
