ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A fire erupted at a wood market in Ghazi Abad district of eastern Kunar province, reducing to ashes wood worth 100 million afghanis, officials said on Wednesday.
Mohammad Ibrahim, deputy police commander of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The fire broke out at a wood market and carpentry shops in Bargam Tangi area on Tuesday night at around 7:00pm, which lasted for five hours and gutted thousands feet of wood.”
He said preliminary information suggest the fire caused about 100m afs losses to the people.
He added local people and officials failed to douse the fire.
“A firefighters’ team arrived three hours later from the provincial capital, but everything was burnt,” Ibrahim said.
Meanwhile, those who suffered losses in the blaze asked the government for assistance.
Abdul Rashid said his carpentry shop and wooden objects were burnt in the incident and he suffered huge financial losses.
He said his economic situation was not good and asked the government to assist him.
