PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has decided to extend the validity of registration cards for Afghan refugees residing in the country by an additional six months, The News reported on Thursday.
The federal cabinet had approved a proposal to extend the stay of Afghan refugees and their family members who had previously been documented in Pakistan under the Proof of Residence (PoR) programme.
The registration cards of the Afghans had expired on June 30. But as a result of the cabinet decision, the cards had been extended until December 31, the newspaper said, citing unnamed sources.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar told reporters in Islamabad around 1.4 million Afghans registered under the PoR initiative, were currently living in Pakistan.
