15 women owned factories go green in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).has established solar power systems for 15 factories owned by women at a cost of $225,000 in northern Balkh province.

Wahab Al-Irani, UNDP regional official, said the power system was aimed at supporting businesswomen.

According to him, each system cost $15,000 and produces eight kilowatts of electricity and meets all electrical needs of a manufacturing plant.

Owners of the factories are happy with the electricity system.

Anisa Hussaini, manager of a manufacturing plant in Balkh, told Pajhwok that she was happy that a free electricity system was built for her plant.

She said: “Before I used to pay about 20,000 afghanis in electricity bills every two months, but now I am happy that free electricity has been provided to us.”

Similarly, Nadia, owner of another factory, said the solar power system resolved their many problems and their production level had increased.
