PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s apex court has ordered the fixing of identical petitions challenging the forcible deportation of Afghan nationals.

Supreme Court judge Justice Yahya Afridi, allowing identical chamber appeals filed against objections from the registrar’s office to the petitions, ordered their fixing it before an open court.

The petitions had been filed by former senator and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Farhatullah Babar and others under Article 184(3) of the Constitution against the forced eviction of Afghans.

Earlier, the registrar’s office had returned the petitions, raising objections to them. But the petitioners later filed chamber appeals against the registrar’s objections.

On Monday, Justice Afridi overturned the objections from the registrar’s office and ordered the fixing of the petitions before an open court.

As part of an ongoing campaign against unregistered aliens, Pakistan has deported hundreds of thousands of Afghan migrants. The process continues in disregard of calls for a halt to the expatriation of refugees.
