KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Refugee and Repatriation Minister Khalil Rahman Haqqani says Turkey should work on procedure to legalize Afghan refugees and provide work visas and other facilities to Afghans.
Haqqani met Turkish ambassador Cihad Erginay in his office on Sunday, the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation (MoRR) wrote on its X handle.
They discussed problems of Afghan refugee in Turkey, release of Afghan prisoners and some other issues.
Erginay said Turkey has good and strong ties with Afghanistan and the presence of Afghan diplomat in Turkey and the visit of delegations showed Turkey’s goodwill towards Afghanistan.
He said: "Reports of misbehavior with refugees by Turkish police have decreased, and we have taken steps to address any complaints.”
Haqqani said that Turks and Afghans enjoyed religious and historical commonalities which should lead to good relations with each other.
Haqqani added: "Since Turkey and Afghanistan are Islamic countries, the issue of refugees should also be looked at from the perspective of Islamic principles, procedures should be implemented to legalize illegal immigrants and work visas and other facilities should be provided to Afghans."
Earlier, MoRR had said Turkey deported about 3,090 Afghan refugees during current solar year.
