HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Turkey says it is looking for the promotion of modern education through Afghan-Turk schools in Afghanistan.
Head of the Turkish Education Foundation in Afghanistan Ahmed Tukur said this at a meeting with Herat Governor Maulvi Noor Ahmad Islam and other officials here on Monday.
Tukur said his country fully supported Afghanistan’s education sector and was ready for all possible cooperation in this regard.
He said: "We are committed to Afghan youth’s education and training through Afghan-Turk schools. We want to play a greater role in this sector."
According to him, Turkey is looking for the promotion of modern education in Afghanistan, and would provide more facilities for students in various fields, including capacity building.
Islam appreciated activities of the foundation in Afghanistan, saying the Turks and Afghans shared cultural, religious and historical commonalities..
He asked Afghan-the Turk Education Foundation to cooperate with Herat’s education sector. The local administration is ready for cooperation in this area.
More than 6,000 students are currently studying at nine Afghan-Turk schools in eight provinces of the country.
