Switzerland gives Afghanistan $1.7m in aid

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Afghanistan says Switzerland has contributed 1.7 million US dollars to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF).

OCHA wrote on its X handle: “Thank you, #Switzerland  for your new contribution of CHF 1.5 million (US$ 1.7 million) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) for 2024.”

It said since 2016, Switzerland - being a multi-year donor - had contributed over $ 19.7 million to AHF. Earlier, Switzerland had donated $1.9 million to AHF.

Last week, OCHA had warned 23.7 million people in Afghanistan would require humanitarian assistance in 2024.

“In 2024, 23.7M ppl, 52% of them women & girls, will require humanitarian aid; let’s stand with Afghan women & girls, who are among the most affected.”
