Ban imposed on salt imports to encourage local industry

KABUL (Pajhwok): A complete ban has been imposed on the import of salt to the country, a senior Mines and Petroleum Ministry official told mining contractors and traders on Thursday.

Deputy Director of Planning and Policy at the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Sheikh Zia Rahman Al-Aryubi met with mining contractors, factory owners and members of the salt union.

Al-Aryubi said a complete ban had been placed on imported salt, asking contractors and owners of salt factories to avail the opportunity and honestly extract, process, produce and supply salt to the country's markets.

He promised that the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum would support factory owners in every way within the framework of the law.

The salt contractors and mine owners also welcomed the ban.

Many salt mines exist in different provinces of the country.
