KABUL (Pajhwok): A high-level delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar, will attend the funeral ceremony for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran today.
Raisi, his foreign minister and several other officials were killed on Sunday when the helicopter carrying them crashed in East Azerbaijan province.
According to Iranian media outlets, funeral ceremonies for Raisi will be held in Tabriz, Qom, Tehran, Birjand and Mashhad from Tuesday to Thursday.
On Monday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei declared five days of national mourning over the tragic helicopter crash.
Zabihullah Mujahid, chief spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), said Baradar, accompanied by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and others, would attend Raisi’s funeral ceremony in Tehran today (Wednesday).
The funeral/burial announcement was made by Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri on Monday.
Syria, Pakistan, Iraq, India and Turkey have also declared national mourning over the death of Raisi.
