MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Government officials say a package of food and non-food aid from Iran has arrived in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, for floods-affected families.

Local officials received the humanitarian aid at the Maulana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi Airport in Mazar-i-Sharif from the representatives of that country yesterday afternoon.

Hamid Reza Ahmadi, Consul General of Iran in Mazar-i-Sharif, said the aid included food and non-food items such as blankets, kits and other equipment. He said more aid from his country would also reach reach Afghanistan today.

Balkh deputy governor Noorul Hadi Abu Idrees thanked Iran for the assistance and asked other countries to follow suit.

He assured the provincial authority had formed a committee to manage the aid and deliver it transparently to deserving families.

Before this, Qatar, Turkey and Uzbekistan have provided similar assistance to the flood victims of Afghanistan.
