ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Local officials in southwestern Nimroz province say seven Afghan migrants, including women and children, have died in Iran’s Saravan area due to severe thirst and hunger.
Mawlawi Nusrat, head of the Foreign Relations Department of Nimroz, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the seven migrants died in the Saravan area along the Afghanistan-Iran border as a result of severe thirst and hunger.
According to Nusrat, five of the victims were members of a family from Baghlan province, while the other two were women from Adraskan district of Herat province.
He said the five family members died on September 11. They included a woman and four girls aged between 14 and 22.
Nusrat added that the other two women, both residents of Adraskan district, died in the same area on September 10. Their bodies have since been transferred, he said.
Meanwhile, Haaliwash reported that at least 17 Afghan migrants, including women, men and children, died of severe thirst in the Mak-Sokhta area of the Rutak border region in Saravan County, Iran.
According to the report, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 10. The bodies of the victims were later transferred from the site to a cold-storage facility in Khash.
