KABUL (Pajhwok): Prince Ahmad Shah Zahir, the eldest son of Afghanistan former king Mohammad Zahir Shah, passed away in the Virginia city of United State on Tuesday.

Ahmad Shah Zahir’s nephew Mustafa Zahir wrote on his Facebook page that his uncle, who had been ill for some time, passed away in Virginia city.

Meanwhile, Nader Naeem, another nephew, wrote on social media platform X: “We received with deep sadness the news that my dear uncle, the eldest son of Afghanistan former king Mohammad Zahir Shah, Crown Prince Ahmad Shah Zahir, passed away at the age of 89 in Virginia city of US”.

Ex-Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also expressed his condolences on the death of Ahmad Shah Zahir on his Facebook page.

Mohammad Zahir Shah ruled Afghanistan for 40 years from 1933 until he was deposed in 1973.
