TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A number of residents of Khas Uruzgan district of central Uruzgan province have donated their land for construction of buildings for 42 schools and four seminaries.
Education department officials confirm receiving over 35 acres of land from some residents for schools and seminaries in Khas Uruzgan district.
Education Director Maulvi Shamsullah Kamran told Pajhwok Afghan News ownership documents of the donated land were formally handed over to officials concerned in the presence of religious scholars, tribal elders and government officials.
The market value of the donated land is estimated to be 7.8 million afghanis, Kamran said.
According to him, buildings for 42 schools and four seminaries will be built on the donated land.
He hailed the land donation for educational institutions as a remarkable step and said future generations would benefit from them..
A number of local people also expressed their pleasure about the land donation.
Habib Ur Rahman, a resident of Tirinkot city, said if people continued donating land for schools, it would solve the issue of lack of buildings.
Local officials say about 84,000 children are growing illiterate in Uruzgan province due to lack of schools.
