KABUL (Pajhwok): Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has thanked the country’s teachers for their efforts and described education as vital to Afghanistan’s independence and dignity on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.

In a message marking World Teachers’ Day, Karzai said that despite limited resources and difficult circumstances, teachers had carried out their “national duty” of educating and nurturing the country’s future generation with sincerity, loyalty and commitment.

“These are the teachers who lead society towards the light of knowledge,” he said.

He added that teachers educate knowledgeable young people who can contribute to defending and protecting the country, achieving self-reliance and creating the conditions for a dignified life.

Karzai congratulated all teachers across the country on World Teachers’ Day and stressed the importance of education for Afghan girls and boys.

He stressed that access to education for all was vital to Afghanistan’s independence and dignity.

He concluded by extending his congratulations to all the country’s “respected and hardworking” teachers on World Teachers’ Day.
