NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of Pato district in central Daikundi province say they have been struggling with serious problems in the absence of telecom services.

Ehsanullah, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that more than 90 percent of the district’s population were deprived of telecommunication services.

He added that in the past, Pato district had been one of the most insecure districts and as a result was deprived of public services.

He said some influential people in Biri, Qakhor, Burmani and other areas had previously asked the government to activate telecommunication networks to solve the problem.

“In this age of technology, unfortunately our people live in a primitive way and this has been a big problem for people,” Ehsanullah said.

“People in our areas climb mountains with a host of difficulties because the network in our areas is very weak and one cannot speak properly over the phone,”

Abdul Hakim Hosseini, another resident of Pato district, said they had to go to the mountains and hills far from their homes to make telephone and internet calls.

He added: “There is no telecom network in our area and we cannot go to other areas because we are busy. When I’m free I go to the mountain to make a phone call to my children in Iran.”

He added that in the era of technology, they could not even make a phone call, which he called a big problem.

He urged the government to pay serious attention to the activation of telecommunication networks in Pato district.

However, officials in the telecommunications department of the province say that work is underway to activate telecommunication networks in Pato district and soon the residents of this district will be provided with access to telecommunication services.

Niamatullah Jidzada, head of telecommunication department, told Pajhwok that the majority of residents of Pato district would have access to telecommunication networks in the near future.

He added that three antennas of Salam Telecommunication Network in Barmani, Qakhor and villages between Tamzan and Pato will be activated by Afghan Telecom Company from the budget of the Ministry of Communications and Technology.

He added that 80 percent of the residents of Pato district were deprived of telecommunication services and they would be provided access to telecommunication services.
