MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A man has been gunned down in Maimana, the provincial capital of northern Faryab province, local officials said on Monday.
Information and Culture director Maulvi Shamsuddin Mohammadi said that Khair Mohammad was killed with gunshots fired by Sher Mohammad in Maimana city today morning.
Both of the victim and the murderer belonged to Tilan area of Pashtun Kot district.
Mohammadi said the motive behind the killing appeared to be personal enmity. He said the murderer had fled, but security forces were trying to arrest him.
Zainullah, an uncle of the slain person, said attackers on two motorcycles opened fire at Khair Mohammad as he came out of his house today.
He said the attack took place near a checkpoint of security forces, but the attackers were able to flee.
Zainullah said: “Khair Mohammad worked in security forces during the previous government. He returned from Iran eight months ago. The victim was father of three daughters, six sons, and left behind a widow and his elderly mother. I urge security forces to arrest his killers.”
