LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Three persons were flogged publicly after being convicted by the appeal court in southern Helmand province, local officials said on Tuesday.
Governor’s spokesman Mohammad Qasem Riaz told Pajhwok Afghan News that two of the convicts were whipped 39 times and sentenced to two years imprisonment while the third received 30 lashes and sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
The Supreme Court (SC) of Afghanistan said in a press statement that the verdict was made by the appeal court of Helmand and executed after it was affirmed by the judicial department of the SC.
The convicts were punished in front of onlookers including the district chief, police chief, head of intelligence department, a number of officials and some local people.
