GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Residents of Janikhel district in southeastern Pakita province say they have been struggling with serious problems in the absence of telecom services.
They say the only telecom antenna cannot meet the need of the entire district.
Zabihullah, an inhabitant of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News there was only one telecom antenna in the entire district and people in many areas lacked access to telecommunication services.
He said: “There is only one antenna in the district centre. People in remote areas do not have access to telecom services and they have to walk several kilometers to make a telephone call.”
Rangin, another resident, also complained about lack of access to telecom services.
He said: “When we want to make a telephone call, we should go up to the top of the mountains and we want the government to resolve our problems in this regard.”
A number of other residents made similar complains and asked the concerned officials to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
On the other hand, government officials assure solution to the problem.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Inayatullah Alokozai, told Pajhwok that currently two communication sites were active in the center of Janikhelo district and another area.
He said: “New sites have been identified for areas that are deprived, including Paktia Janikhelo, which will solve their communication and internet problems.”
He added about 450 new telecom sites were needed throughout the country and work on some of them was underway.
