MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): The Kapisa police headquarters has reported significant crime-control progress over the past year.

It said the provincial police handled 389 criminal cases, destroyed over 50 acres of narcotics and facilitated the rehabilitation of 550 drug addicts.

Additionally, they collected 111 million afghanis in revenue, police officials told a press conference here on Wednesday.

The police officials highlighted key achievements, including improved security, arrests of alleged criminals and community coordination.

They outlined future plans such as increasing the number of police officials, organising vocational training, constructing and repairing administrative complexes and establishing fire brigades in various districts.

Police chief Mohammad Usmani Torabi said nearly 91 million afghanis were generated through the distribution of 17,083 passports. In the traffic management area, 52 accidents were recorded, leading to 113 deaths.

The department also provided driving training to 4,785 people, issued 1,265 driving licences and passports, and collected a revenue of 21.4 million afghanis.

The anti-narcotics department made significant strides, arresting 234 individuals for smuggling 311 kilograms of narcotics. They also cleared 55 acres of drug cultivation and handed 550 drug addicts over to treatment facilities.

Following the registration of 389 criminal cases, 511 individuals were arrested, 15 cases resolved and criminal activity in the province dropped by 30 percent, compared to the previous year.

The counter-terrorism department apprehended 30 suspects and seized five heavy weapons, 76 small arms, 31 rifles, two cameras, 18 landmines and 8,424 rounds of ammunition.

Torabi also informed that 450 police officers received professional training and were equipped with new military uniforms.

Future plans include repairing administrative complexes, establishing fire departments in Kohistan and Tagab districts and installing security cameras in urban and rural areas.

Deputy Governor Sheikh Asadullah Sanan expressed his satisfaction with unified efforts by mujahideen and security forces, emphasising on their commitment to serving the people.

Sheikh Ehsanullah Nasih, head of the Kapisa Ulema Council, endorsed the regularisation of police in military uniforms, highlighting the trust reposed in them and their responsibility to uphold it.
