MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A train loaded with commercial goods has arrived in Hairatan, a dry port in northern Balkh province, from China.
The transportation of goods is part of Afghanistan, China, and Kyrgyzstan’s joint economic corridor which was signed between the three countries in March 2023.
Acting Commerce and Industry Minister Nooruddin Azizi told a gathering organised on the occasion that 55 containers loaded with commercial goods arrived in Hairatan today (Saturday).
He said these containers, loaded with textiles, electronic devices, utensils, and car parts, arrived from China at Hairatan Port in Balkh within 20 days.
Azizi said the caretaker government also has various plans to increase exports, and with the construction of the Salang Highway, the level of exports to Central Asia will increase many times over.
The commerce minister said during the previous government, Afghanistan exported goods worth about $850 million, which is currently at $2 billion.
Uzbekistan Counsel General in Mazar-i-Sharif Jafar Fatyayove said that his country always performed its responsibility to good the neighbourhood with Afghanistan and was committed to cordial ties.
Asadullah Asadi, head of the Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said that the construction of this type of corridor was vital for the removal of hurdles and obstacles in the way of trade and commerce.
He said this corridor helped increase trade and deliver goods at lower prices and in a short time.
After the takeover of the acting government, it was the fourth time that commercial goods arrived in Hairatan by train.
