PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Sixteen militants and four security personnel have been killed in separate gun battles in Pakistan.
The fire exchanges took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab provinces on Saturday and Sunday.
Five alleged militants were killed and nine others wounded in an operation in in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the shootout, Dawn reported, soldier Iftikhar Hussain was also killed.
In the Shagai area of Khyber district, three suspected terrorists were killed and two others arrested by security forces.
Captain Muhammad Zohaibuddin from Lahore was also killed in the operation, the military’s media wing said in a statement.
A police official lost his life in a shootout with armed assailants who attacked a police station in the Darra Pezu town of Lakki Marwat district.
In the Mianwali district of Punjab, police repulsed an attack on the Chapri police station and killed four militants in.
Gunmen fired at a police van of Paharpur police in Mardan Pul area, killing an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and injuring two other policemen.
Four suspected terrorists were killed and several others injured in a gun battle with security forces in the Sherani district of Balochistan.
