Fuel, gold prices surge in Kabul markets

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of Indian sugar, rice and cooking oil decreased, but that of fuel and gold surged during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

Food items

Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Association, said the prices of some food items dropped:

• a 49-kilogram sack of Indian sugar drops from 2,550afs to 2,500afs
• a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice form 2,650afs to 2,600afs
• a 16-litre cooking oil bottle from 1,850afs to 1,800afs

But the rate of other items remained unchanged:

• a 49-kilogram Kazakh flour sack stayed stable at 1,450afs
• a kilogram of African black tea at 400afs
• a kilogram Indonesian green tea at 350afs.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer at Dahna-i-Bagh Market, put the retail price of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakh flour at 1,500afs, a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice at 2,650afs and a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar at 2,550afs.

A 16-litre bottle of cooking oil accounted for 1,850afs, one kilogram of black tea for 400afs and the same quantity of green tea for 450afs, he added.

Fuel prices

A worker at the Ahmadyar pump station told Pajhwok fuel prices went up during the week:

• one litre of petrol from 60afs to 61afs
• one liter of diesel form 58afs to 59afs

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta neighborhood, said a kilogram of the commodity surged from 50afs to 54afs.

Gold prices

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in Timor Shahi area, said the price of gold also increased:

• the price of one gram of Arabian gold increased from 4,850afs to 4,900afs
• one gram of Russian from 3,850afs to 3,900afs

Haji Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, said one US dollar was traded at 70afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees consumed 250afs.

Last week, one US dollar accounted for 70afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 245afs.
