MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Over 210 families who recently returned to the country have been handed over permanent residence in the provincial capital Mehtarlam and two districts of eastern Laghman province, an official said on Monday.
Mawlavi Ghulam Rahman Bilal, head of the Refugee and Repatriation Department, said Alingar and Qarghi districts and capital Mehtarlam, houses had been built for permanent residence to 211 returnee families at a cost of 59 million afs with the financial support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
He said that each of the houses handed over to the returnees has two rooms, a corridor, a kitchen and a bathroom, which are built in a solid and basic manner.
At the same time, those who were given these houses are happy and are asking for more cooperation from the government.
Ali Khan, a resident of Gularam area of Mehtarlam city, said that he was forcibly evicted from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is now happy that a shelter has been built for him in his homeland.
It is worth noting that in late 2023, tens of thousands of Afghan families were forcibly evicted from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and various cities in Pakistan, some of whom still do not have permanent shelter and live in temporary camps.
