WFP able to help 1m Afghans out of 10m at risk

KABUL (Pajhwok): The World Food Program says nearly 10 million people need food aid this summer in Afghanistan while it is only able to help one million.

The World Food Program today wrote on its X page that this summer, the organization will provide life-saving emergency food assistance to one million people.

It said the aid distribution process is carried out each month in some areas when hunger levels are highest and that areas have been most affected by natural disasters such as drought and floods.

According to WFP, vulnerable families are receiving wheat flour, cooking oil, pulses and salt to survive for three months.

“This short-term emergency assistance would prevent more people from falling into critical levels of food insecurity – with nearly 10 million people in Afghanistan currently in need of food assistance,” the organization said.
