Over 7,000 new fish farms to be set up nationwide

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Economic Commission has given the go-ahead to a plan for the development of the country’s fish farming sector.

According to the plan, 7,700 new fish farms will be established across the country.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs wrote on its X handle that the regular meeting of the Technical Committee of the Economic Commission was held on Monday at the Marmarin Palace.

During the meeting, the Fish Farming Sector Development Plan and the Agriculture and Livestock Sector Development Policy were presented for discussion.

Following comprehensive discussions and consideration of the Ministry of Water and Energy’s views, the fish farming development plan was endorsed.

As per the plan, 7,700 fish farms will be set up nationwide. This initiative is expected to meet up to 90 percent of the country’s demand for fish meat and create direct and indirect employment opportunities for 300,000 people.

The plan has been referred to the Economic Commission for a final decision.

The meeting also featured a discussion on the Agriculture and Livestock Sector Development Policy.

After thorough deliberation, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock were instructed to incorporate the feedback of the Ministry of Water and Energy into the policy and present the final version at the next session of the Technical Committee.
