KABUL (Pajhwok): The Minister of Refugees and Repatriation has said that Afghans were forced into exile to protect their religion and the independence of their country. He described every returning Afghan as valuable and emphasized that efforts are being made to address the issues of returnees to the fullest extent.
In a statement, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said that during his visit to Khost, Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir met with representatives of returnees and provided cash assistance to dozens of poor returning families.
Mawlawi Kabir noted that the process of distributing aid to needy returnees has begun in all provinces and thousands of families are expected to receive cash and food assistance.
He also called on aid organizations and donors to support returnees and extend assistance where needed.
Earlier, Mawlawi Kabir had stated that over the past four years, 6.8 million Afghans have returned to their country, while 1.3 million people have been displaced internally due to natural disasters.
According to reports, Afghan refugees currently live in more than 100 countries worldwide, with registered numbers exceeding six million. Iran, Pakistan and Germany remain the largest host countries for Afghan refugees.
