61 killed as heavy snowfall, rain lash Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 61 people have been killed and 110 others injured following heavy snowfall and rainfall over the past three days across the country, according to the National Disaster Preparedness Authority.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the authority said that, in addition to the casualties, 458 residential houses have been fully or partially destroyed in various parts of the country due to the recent weather conditions.

The authority noted that the figures are preliminary.

It added that assessment and evaluation by response teams in the affected areas are ongoing, and the number of casualties and damages may be revised.

The National Disaster Preparedness Authority did not specify which provinces recorded the highest number of casualties.
