KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan youth taekwondo athlete Ali Reza Jami is set to face a Russian opponent on Thursday at an ongoing international tournament in Uzbekistan.
The Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation said Jami will compete in the under-68kg category at the event hosted by Uzbekistan.
According to the federation, if Jami defeats his Russian rival, he will advance to face a Maldivian athlete in the next round, followed by a potential bout against an Iranian competitor.
The international youth taekwondo tournament, currently underway in Uzbekistan, features four athletes from Afghanistan.
The General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said a total of 991 athletes from 116 countries, including Afghanistan, are participating in the competition.
