KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has summoned the Pakistani chargé d’affaires in Kabul and handed over a protest note over recent strikes by Pakistan on civilian targets and public facilities in eastern Kunar province.
In a statement, the ministry said it summoned the Pakistani envoy on Tuesday and lodged a formal protest over the strikes on civilian targets and public infrastructure along the Durand Line, including an attack on a university in Kunar.
MoFA strongly condemned the violation of Afghanistan’s airspace and attacks on civilians, describing them as a clear breach of the country’s territorial integrity, contrary to international principles and a provocative act.
It said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) rejected Pakistan’s claims that the violence originated from Afghanistan and stressed that the root causes of the situation should be carefully examined.
The ministry reiterated that IEA reserves the legitimate right to defend its territory and people, urging Pakistan to refrain from such actions and warning that their continuation would have serious consequences.
Pakistan carried out attacks on parts of Kunar city and the Marawara, Dangam and Shultan districts on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, seven civilians were martyred and 75 others, including women, children and 30 students from Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University, were wounded.
