KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov says Moscow has received approval from its leadership to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, which will be delivered if formally requested by Kabul.
Kabulov told Russian media outlet Izvestia that Afghanistan’s domestic harvest would temporarily ease the country’s food crisis, but shortages could re-emerge in the future.
He said: “We have already completed the necessary procedures. There is corresponding approval from the Russian leadership to provide such assistance in the second half of the year if the Afghan government requests it.”
He added that under current circumstances, Moscow was continuing its assistance to Afghanistan. In April, Russia sent nearly 4,000 tonnes of wheat flour to the country and is now preparing the next shipment.
