HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Local officials in western Herat province say about 80 tonnes of fresh milk are produced and supplied to markets across the province each day.
Mohammad Saber Amani, Dairy Development Manager at the Herat Department of Agriculture, said livestock farming in the province has expanded significantly in recent years.
According to Amani, up to 80 tonnes of fresh milk are produced daily and distributed to local markets for consumption.
He said milk produced by livestock farmers is processed and marketed through 10 dairy processing plants and around 180 dairy shops operating across the province.
Amani added that the growth of the livestock sector has increased fresh milk production and created employment opportunities for hundreds of families.
He noted that the sector plays a key role in meeting local demand through domestic production and strengthening the province’s agricultural economy.
