KABUL (Pajhwok): China’s Foreign Minister has called on members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to support Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development.
Chinese media reported that Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks on Monday during a ceremony in Beijing marking the 25th anniversary of the SCO’s founding.
He urged the organization to play a greater role as a stabilizing, constructive and progressive force in today’s world.
Wang called on the SCO to uphold common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, promote peace and stability in the Middle East and support Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development.
He said the organization should serve as a model for advancing peace, development and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Wang also noted that the SCO has pioneered a new model of regional cooperation among neighboring countries and contributed to the development of a new type of international relations.
Founded in Shanghai in 2001, the SCO has expanded from six founding members to a 10-member organization with two observer states and 15 dialogue partners.
According to reports, the SCO has become the world’s largest comprehensive regional organization in terms of geographical coverage and population.
