HERAT (Pajhwok): The Minister of Propagation of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints has urged religious scholars and influential figures to encourage people to comply with Islamic laws and the ministry’s regulations through appropriate methods and good conduct.
In a statement, the MoVV said a meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation between religious scholars and influential figures from western Afghanistan was held in Herat, with the participation of Sheikh Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the minister.
The statement said Hanafi discussed with religious scholars, provincial heads of the ministry’s offices and influential figures from the western region the role of scholars in encouraging public compliance with Islamic laws and their cooperation in implementing the ministry’s law.
According to the statement, Hanafi called on scholars and community leaders to promote adherence to Islamic laws and the ministry’s regulations through suitable approaches and good manners.
He said religious scholars and influential figures have a responsibility to prevent wrongdoing and contribute to social reform.
He also urged scholars to explain the ministry’s law to the public so that people could better understand the regulations.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad Bashir Halimi, head of the Herat Ulema Council, described cooperation between scholars and influential figures as the most effective way to implement laws related to the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice.
Herat Governor Sheikh Noor Ahmad Islamjar also highlighted the importance of coordination between government institutions, religious scholars and tribal elders in implementing religious rulings, strengthening social unity and serving the people. He called for continued cooperation among them.
During the meeting, several religious scholars called for specialised training programmes for officials responsible for monitoring and enforcing religious regulations in the country’s provinces to improve the implementation of Islamic directives.
Participants also stressed the need for continued coordination and cooperation between the MoVV, religious scholars and community elders, promoting the culture of enjoining virtue and preventing vice, and strengthening Islamic values in society.
