KABUL (Pajhwok): Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Sheikh Hibatullah Akhundzada has emphasised the need to strengthen the Islamic system, promote religious guidance, prevent vice and reinforce unity.
He made the remarks at a meeting with a group of religious scholars in southern Kandahar province, IEA deputy spokesman Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat wrote on his X account.
Fitrat said Akhundzada addressed a gathering of religious scholars from Kandahar city and the province’s districts, organised to strengthen and consolidate the Islamic system.
The IEA supreme leader said religious scholars bore a significant responsibility for conveying, explaining and defending Islam, as well as providing religious guidance to the public.
He urged them to work with determination to prevent vice and eliminate un-Islamic practices, saying the current environment offered a valuable opportunity to implement Islamic law and serve the religion.
He said religious scholars throughout history had worked under difficult circumstances to preserve and promote Islam and Islamic law.
Quoting Akhundzada, Fitrat said Allah had entrusted the protection of Islam to both religious scholars and rulers. Rulers were responsible for safeguarding Islam through their authority, while scholars were responsible for explaining and conveying religious teachings.
He added that if both fulfilled their responsibilities properly, society as a whole would remain on the right path.
Akhundzada described the current Islamic system as a great blessing, saying Afghanistan now has a government that called on people to follow Islamic law.
He urged scholars to strengthen mutual trust and unity so that no opportunity would be left for enemies to sow division among them.
He also encouraged them to promote obedience and unity among the public.
The IEA supreme leader also called on religious scholars to cooperate fully in strengthening the Islamic system and reviving religious values, encourage people to avoid unproductive activities, support education and other constructive pursuits, pay close attention to the education and upbringing of students, and explain the purpose and importance of the IEA’s decrees and laws to the public.
He also advised religious scholars and officials to uphold piety and humility, strive to guide the people, and pray for the success and steadfastness of the country’s leaders.
