KABUL (Pajhwok): British Member of Parliament Stephen Doughty has been appointed the UK government’s minister responsible for Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Middle East and North Africa.
In a post on X, Doughty wrote: “I’m now honoured to take on responsibility for our work on the Middle East & N Africa, Afghanistan & Pakistan & sanctions.”
He also said he would support British nationals living overseas and work with local governments and councils to improve public services.
Before joining the government, Doughty worked with a number of humanitarian and development organisations. He later served as the Labour Party’s spokesperson on foreign affairs.
