NILI (Pajhwok): A mass wedding ceremony for 60 young couples was held in Pato district of central Daikundi province to facilitate affordable marriages and reduce wedding expenses.
The ceremony was organized by the office of Ayatollah Waezzada Behsoodi in cooperation with the Daikundi Information and Culture Department. Local officials, religious scholars, young people and the couples’ families attended the event.
Mohammad Ibrahim Etemadi, head of the Shia Ulema Council and head of Ayatollah Waezzada Behsoodi’s office in Daikundi, said the ceremony aimed to facilitate affordable marriages for young people and combat undesirable customs and traditions.
He said young people face high wedding costs due to difficult economic conditions, adding that families and religious scholars should work to reduce wedding expenses and promote affordable marriages.
Etemadi urged people and young couples to follow Islamic teachings when holding wedding ceremonies and avoid unnecessary expenses and practices.
Dowries were also provided to the couples as part of the ceremony.
Last week, the office of Ayatullah Waezzada Behsoodi also organized a mass wedding ceremony for 120 couples in Nili, the provincial capital of Daikundi.
