FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Nine more police were killed after Taliban militants stormed their post in a midnight attack in Bala Buluk district of western Farah province, residents said on Friday.

One resident on the condition of anonymity told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban attacked the police post in Kansak village last midnight and the ensuing clash lasted several hours.

He said today’s morning they came to know that nine police had been killed and three others taken away by the attackers.

Pajhwok tried to contact local security officials about the attack, but could not succeed.

Confirmed reports suggest that 40 policemen have been killed, 10 taken hostage and several others wounded in Taliban attacks on their posts at night during the past five days in Farah province.

Member and secretary of the provincial council, Dadullah Qani, told Pajhwok Afghan News that seven police had been killed and four others taken hostage by the Taliban during the last night attack in Bala Buluk district.

The public representative said suck attacks resulted from the incompetency of the governor’s house and the police headquarters.

He said the Taliban in the past five days tactically attacked police posts at night one after another but the governor’s house had taken no action to prevent their attacks.

The Taliban took responsibility for the last night attack in Bala Buluk, with their spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi saying nine police were killed and three held captive in the attack.
